The very first season of Game of Thrones on HBO and Sky Atlantic didn’t exactly shy away from a shocking death here and there. Just as fans were over morning the shocking execution of Ned Stark (played by Sean Bean), Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) died and had his body burnt on a blazing pyre. In the years after the character’s death, Momoa has spoken out on the decision to leave the role and how it made him feel “bummed”. Why did Jason Momoa leave Game of Thrones? Speaking to Access Hollywood in 2011 after his character died, Momoa said: “The description of Drogo was amazing, so (I) started reading the book. “It took me four days. (When) Drogo died, I literally freaked out, “I set down the book, went to Barnes & Noble, bought the second book and I’m flipping through it because, of course, I’m somehow back in it and I was so bummed [I wasn’t].” Despite initially feeling upset at having to leave the role, Momoa has had time to reflect on why his time was cut short and its benefits.
